Black Cats

Published by angelinachai at 4:41 am under Chinese Superstition Edit This

There are many superstitions concerning black cats up to the olden days of witchcraft and magical ism. Many countries and culture have different beliefs. I have been raised up in a Chinese community and this superstition was told to me as I was watching over a passing relative.

The elders reminded me to take extra care in the lookout of cats, black ones in particular. I was to shush away any cats that came even 10 foot away from the open coffin. Puzzled and a bit annoyed by such request, I asked for the reason. I was then explained and told of an experience they went through when the event happened.

The event occurred when a black cat jumped over a coffin. Soon after, the people present heard some noise from inside the coffin. They peered to have a look and the dead body began to move and sat up. The body proceeded to getting out of the coffin and began to look for someone to catch. Although the movement was slow, most people were already panicked to do anything. Luckily, an elder was quick to throw a pillow at the dead person and it returned back to its coffin. The elder told of another story whereby a cousin of the dead person was caught and no one could separate them. She was dragged back to the coffin and died when they finally managed to rip them apart.

Sounds impossible? Well, I’m not the one who wants to find out. Anyone who’s adventurous enough can actually test to see how accurate this is. Get a volunteer to be caught or just stand by a big pillow by your side. Good Luck!
